Anthenora hails from Italy and was formed back in 1990 and deeply influenced by Iron Maiden, Saxon, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Accept, Grave Digger and Helloween.
Anthenora is the most known Italian Iron Maiden tribute band, playing all around the country, from North to South, increasing considerably the number of fans with powerful shows.
In November 2002 the guys were chosen by Nicko McBrain (Iron Maiden's drummer) to join his Total McBrain Damage tour as his band. The great success and the deep feeling instituted with Anthenora led Nicko to repeat the tour in April 2003 and June 2004. In September 2003 Anthenora released their debut album called "The Last Command" and now they are back with a brand new release called "Soulgrinder".
Luigi Bonansea " vocals, Stefano "Pooma" Pomero " guitars, Domenico "Mekk" Borra " guitars, Steve Balocco " bass, and Fabio Smareglia " drums provides us with a pure Metal album with Thrashy riffs. In my opinion this album needs 6-7 spins in the CD-player to open up" but I don't wanna come into the details of each song; it would be pretty useless.
Just imagine a mix of Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and Grave Digger spiced with Thrashy guitar riffs and you have an idea what Anthenora sounds like. And yes" this album needs some time in the CD-player to open up, but even after numerous listens this album is "only" good and not great.
I wish that their next album will be as heavy as this one but the songs a little more memorable. Sorry" but I'm lost for words. But if you're into pure Heavy Metal music, give this album a listen, maybe you're in for a nice surprise.
